The whole life is to experience the experience of lovelorn, because the love of love is to make you find better.

This is the time to dress uniforms thought and trust, but a long time, gradually we don't have any affection for security, the distance of each other on such a day defeat to reality, everyone's experience is a good example of twists and turns, repeat the history.

My mother is a very clever girl, what is what my grandmother said at least, he is very hard, when the mother school grades are excellent, but for a grandma came from her brother's brother to go home, the mother left school at 15, to maintain the uncle weaving factory inside the work school. The young mother, at that time ignorant, because the grandmother beside mother and uncle want to get together, what all don't understand the mother so uncle gave five years of youth, after school uncle, uncle to say what you think, with close relatives can not reason together, refused he raised more than 20 years of mother's thought, but in need of help the mother to go to school, but the selfish accepted me to pay for his mother. Okay, wait until the mother was, the better father, father is an honest man, because not tall, the family was poor, the old five year old mother, father and mother are pragmatic, in order to let the children have a better life, we will raise the bear bitter hardships sisters, father perennial wandering in a foreign country. In order to make more money, let the home become better.

Anyway, that my uncle, the first is to urban hukou, and a general appearance of the girls engaged, met a beautiful and Hukou aunt, resolutely abandoned his fiancee, married aunt thought with old grandmother lived a happy life, but because of a body disease, God deprived young life, the beautiful aunt took my little brother remarried, after a divorce, is also a desolate life.

In this fragile history of love, mother is happy, at least no matter what life meets, father is his pillar. There are two baby woman her intimate jacket. Remember that a high moment, Chinese teacher said, parents are the most difficult, there are old here are small, back lying in his mother's arms, the mother asked the mother, her smiling face flower, happily said: "I am very happy, love my husband and two baby my daughter, the body is also very good." Mother's life is hard and happy.

In fact, I am a person just like mother, in my ignorant youth, have let me pay the youth, when both sides parents in his undergraduate are met, are quite love, but in the morning he told his mother of success, clear that do not agree with our marriage, all of a sudden, it is fun, a bolt from the blue, rhetoric is the fortune teller said I wasn't good for him, we talked in this statement are not three years, but after the examination came out, people are selfish, but he is also wavering don't know what to do.

Although I understand his wavering, but is not able to forgive, I pay the youth for you, this is just the time length to that school dress, but the reality is you swing to let me disappointed, I want very simple, at least when I need you to I am a shoulder, the entire incident, I did a little bit wrong, but your mother said that, your mother crying when, at least your father patted the shoulder, then I do, where are you?

Who is perhaps that we, in the memory of youth, of our friends the sustenance of campus love blessing, but in this graduation season, wisteria flowers of the season, say goodbye.

I do not know how to face the future life, dear, you appear, so that my entire youth, are you always silently behind me, hold on, remember you and I said a word, I love the song "until finally you" Okay, I didn't give up.

All the lovelorn is for the better.

To those who are like me for love, to pay the whole youth.

I remember quite clearly now when the story happened. The autumn leaves were floating in 1)measure down to the ground, recovering the lake, where we used to swim like children, under the sun was there to shine. That time we used to be happy. Well, I thought we were. But the truth was that you had been 2)longing to leave me, not daring to tell me. On that precious night, watching the lake, vaguely 3)conscious, you said: “Our story is ending.”

The rain was killing the last days of summer. You had been killing my last breath of love, since a long time ago. I still don’t think I’m gonna make it through another love story. You took it all away from me. And there I stand, I knew I was going to be the one left behind. But still I’m watching the lake, vaguely conscious, and I know my life is ending.

"The days that make us happy make us wise."----John Masefield

when I first read this line by England's Poet Laureate, it startled me. What did Masefield mean? Without thinking about it much, I had always assumed that the opposite was true. But his sober assurance was arresting. I could not forget it.

Finally, I seemed to grasp his meaning and realized that here was a profound observation. The wisdom that happiness makes possible lies in clear perception, not fogged by anxiety nor dimmed by despair and boredom, and without the blind spots caused by fear.

Active happiness---not mere satisfaction or contentment ---often comes suddenly, like an April shower or the unfolding of a bud. Then you discover what kind of wisdom has accompanied it. The grass is greener; bird songs are sweeter; the shortcomings of your friends are more understandable and more forgivable. Happiness is like a pair of eyeglasses correcting your spiritual vision.

Nor are the insights of happiness limited to what is near around you. Unhappy, with your thoughts turned in upon your emotional woes, your vision is cut short as though by a wall. Happy, the wall crumbles.

The long vista is there for the seeing. The ground at your feet, the world about you----people, thoughts, emotions, pressures---are now fitted into the larger scene. Everything assumes a fairer proportion. And here is the beginning of wisdom.

The first snow came. How beautiful it was, falling so silently all day long, all night long, on the mountains, on the meadows, on the roofs of the living, on the graves of the dead! All with save the river, that marked its course by a winding black line across the landscape; and the leafless trees, that against the leaden sky now revealed more fully the wonderful beauty and intricacies of their branches. What silence, too, came with the snow, and what seclusion!

Every sound was muffled, every noise changed to something soft and musical. No more tramping hoofs, no more rattling wheels! Only the chiming of sleigh-bells, beating as swift and merrily as the hearts of children.

After enduring three years of abuse, and seeing it turn to my children I could not take it any more.

Strength is more than the measure of muscle. Strength is the courage you muster to do even the things that seem impossible.

That year there were 22,000 reported cases of abuse against children in my state.

Taking my children from statistics to survivors was the greatest thing I’ve ever done in my life.

Not being afraid to speak out against domestic violence any more empowers me. Jump out on that limb and reach for the greatness you deserve, you’re not just a statistic, you are a human, you are survivor just waiting to break free.

That must be the story of innumerable couples, and the pattern of lifeof life it offers has a homely grace。 It reminds you of a placid rivulet, meandering smoohtly through green pastures and shaded by pleasant trees, till at last it falls into the vasty sea; but the sea is so calm, so silent, so infifferent, that you are troubled suddently by a vague uneasiness。 Perhaps it is only by a kink in my nature, strong in me even in those days, that i felt in such an existence, the share of the great majority, something amiss。 I recognized its social value。 I saw its ordered happiness, but a fever in my blood asked for a wilder course。 There seemed to me something alarming in such easy delights。 In my heart was desire to live more dangerously。 I was not unprepared for jagged rocks and treacherous, shoals it I could only have change-change and the exicitement of unforeseen。

  Stay True to Yourself

But my idea of success is different today. And as you grow, you'll realise the definition of success changes. For many of you, today, success is being able to hold down 20 shots of tequila. For me, the most important thing in your life is to live your life with integrity, and not to give into peer pressure; to try to be something that you're not. To live your life as an honest and compassionate person; to contribute in some way. So to conclude my conclusion: follow your Passion, stay true to yourself. Never follow anyone else's path, unless you're in the woods and you're lost and you see a path, and by all means you should follow that. Don't give advice, it will come back and bite you in the ass. Don't take anyone's advice. So my advice to you is to be true to yourself and everything will be fine.

And I know that a lot of you are concerned about your future, but there's no need to worry. The economy is booming, the job market is wide open, the planet is just fine It's gonna be great. You've already survived a hurricane What else can happen to you? And as I mentioned before, some of the most devastating things that happen to you will teach you the most. And now you know the right questions to ask in your first job interview. Like, "Is it above sea level?". So to conclude my conclusion that I've previously concluded, in the common cement speech, I guess what I'm trying to say is life is like one big Mardi Gras. But instead of showing your boobs, show people your brain, and if they like what they see, you'll have more beads than you know what to do with. And you'll be drunk, most of the time.

  Feelings, Failure and Finding Happiness

The world has so many lessons to teach you. I consider the world, this Earth, to be like a school and our life the classrooms. And sometimes here in this Planet Earth school the lessons often come dressed up as detours or roadblocks. And sometimes as full-blown crises. And the secret I've learned to getting ahead is being open to the lessons, lessons from the grandest university of all, that is, the universe itself. It's being able to walk through life eager and open to self-improvement and that which is going to best help you evolve, because that's really why we're here, to evolve as human beings. To grow into more of ourselves, always moving to the next level of understanding, the next level of compassion and growth.

I think about one of the greatest compliments I've ever received: I interviewed with a reporter when I was first starting out in Chicago. And then many years later, I saw the same reporter. And she said to me, "You know what? You really haven't changed. You've just become more of yourself."

And that is really what we're all trying to do, become more of ourselves. And I believe that there's a lesson in almost everything that you do and every experience, and getting the lesson is how you move forward. It's how you enrich your spirit. And, trust me, I know that inner wisdom is more precious than wealth. The more you spend it, the more you gain.

  Tribute to Diana

There is no doubt that she was looking for a new direction in her life at this away from England, mainly because of the treatment that she received at the hands of the newspapers. I don't think she ever understood why her genuinely good intentions were sneered at by the media, why there appeared to be a permanent quest on their behalf to bring her down. It is baffling.

My own and only explanation is that genuine goodness is threatening to those at the opposite end of the moral spectrum. It is a point to those at the opposite end of the moral spectrum. It is a point to remember that of all the ironies about Diana, perhaps the greatest was this a girl given the name of the ancient goddess of hunting was, in the end, the most hunted person of the modern age.

She would want us today to pledge ourselves to protecting her beloved boys William and Harry from a similar fate and I do this here Diana on your behalf. We will not allow them to suffer the anguish that used regularly to drive you to tearful despair.

And beyond that, on behalf of your mother and sisters, I pledge that we, your blood family, will do all we can to continue the imaginative way in which you were steering these two exceptional young men so that their souls are not simply immersed by duty and tradition but can sing openly as you planned.

"I dread to come to the end of the year, said a friend to me recently, "it makes me realize I am growing old.”

William James, the great psychologist, said that most men are "old fogies at twenty-fiveHe was right. Most men at twenty-five are satisfied with their jobs. They have accumulated the little stock of prejudices that they call their "Principles, " and closed their minds to all new ideas; they have ceased to grow.

The minutea man ceases to grow-no matter what his years-that minute he begins to be old. On the other hand, the really great man never grows old.

Goethe passed out at eighty-three, and finished his Faust only a few years earlier; Gladstone took up a new language when he was seventy. Laplace, the astronomer, was still at work when death caught up with him at seventy-eight. He died crying, "What we know is nothing; what we do not know is immense."

And there you have the real answer to the question, "When is a man old?"

Laplace at seventy-eight died young. He was still unsatisfied, still sure that he had a lot to learn.

As long as a man can keep himself in that attitude of mind, as long as he can look back on every year and say , "I grew," he is still young.

The minute he ceases to grow, the minute he says to himself, "I know all that I need to know,"--that day youth stops. He may be twenty-five or seventy-five, it makes no difference. On that day he begins to be old.

There is no better school than adversity. Every defeat, every heartbreak, every loss, contains its own seed, its own lesson on how to improve my performance next time. Never again will I contribute to my downfall by refusing to face the truth and learn from my past mistakes. Because I know: gems cannot shine without polish, and I can not perfect myself without hardship.

Always will I seek the seed of triumph in every adversity.

I am better prepared , now ,to deal with any adversity . No matter what fate has in store for me to know that I will relish it or I will suffer it for only a brief, brief time.So very few understand this obvious truth while the rest allow their hopes and goals to vanish as soon as tragedy strikes. These unfortunately people carry with them, until they die their own bed of thorms and look to others. every day, for sympathy and attention.Adversity will never destroy the person with courage and faith

Always will I seek the seed of triumph in every adversity.

Now I know that there are no times in life when opportunity, the chance to be and do gathers so richly about my soul as when it has to suffer cruel adversity. Then everything depends on whether I raise my head or lower it in seeking help. Whenever I am struck down, in the future, by any terrible defeat, I will inquire of myself, after the first pain has passed, how I can turn that adversity into good. What a great opportunity that moment may present……to make the bitter root I am holding and transform it into fragrant garden of flowers.

Always will I seek the seed of triumph in every adversity.

Life is like a big swing, dangling between the depths of happiness and sadness. As soon as we descend down the slope of sadness, we accelerate over the ever-feel-good acclivity f happiness. At times of distress, when we are down we slip over an abyss of emotional trauma and frustrations. One who can rise above the occasion, is the architect of many wins over sorrows.

To come above tougher times you have to pep yourself up, when you are feeling low, lost and confused. This can be done effectively by self-talk. Self-talk is a way of talking to oneself. It can be effectively used for soul searching. When talking to ourselves, we hardly lie as our conscience controls our speech. Self talk is efficient because when we are vocal about our thoughts, it makes a larger impact on our mind. Our brain then receives the same message from the mind as well as the ears. This repetition pep talks and thoughts fine tunes the performance of brain.

Self-talk is a software, which when properly loaded onto our mind directs ourselves for better results and a healthy mind. Actually many times in our life, we find others advising us to do better in studies, sports, life etc. We usually get bugged by these people and blank our ears out of their constructive suggestions. It is because it doesn't come from within us. And when something comes from within you, you always try your best to do justice to it. Self-talk can thus ameliorate our status.

Each one of us has some good points and some bad ones. Though we hardly admit in pubic, we know in our mind that we could do better in some areas of our personal landscape. This get better attitude can be converted into a practical reality using self-talk.

If you are an introvert and you want to be the gregarious person like you friend next door, all you need to do is talk to yourself. Tell yourself with all the sincerity and emotions that "I can be like him. I am a natural born speaker. I do like people and speaking comes naturally to me. I just have to be ready to listen and speak". Suppose you love a person and want to tell him or her, then just say to yourselves "I love her with all my heart. She is the only one and I know it. If I don't let her know, it would be grave injustice on my part. Every person loves to be loved. Even she will". These are just some examples I have explained. It's up to you to program your own mantra.

If you are highly optimistic to do better, there is no better motivator than self-talk. So guys start talking.

They think this is how things can only be like.

So they choose to reach a compromise and become mediocre. They become the background colors in others' eyes. They won't achieve anything great to be written down in history, nor can they bring any enjoyment to the people around them.

They are alive, but deep down in their hearts something important has died.

And there are another kind of people. They choose to live with dignity.

Are you emotionally and mentally healthy? As humans, we're so complex and having ups and downs is normal. But in general, assess where you stand emotionally. If it's in a healthy place and you can manage your emotions in a healthy way — great! But if you self-soothe in destructive ways and have a negative attitude and energy about you, realize that it's not just affecting you, but others too. When you aren't an emotionally and mentally healthy person, that energy pours into everything you do, and everyone you're around will feel the effects, too.

How's your spirituality? In this sense, spirituality is about having an ultimate purpose and being in tune with your true self. Do you wake up every day excited for what your life is about, and have gratitude for all the abundance you already have? If not, you may not be listening and living to what your heart truly desires. Living this way long term, may affect the essence of your inner being and, in turn, may not allow you to show up your very best for the world.

If you can think of any ways to improve your wellbeing and love yourself more, start today! Take a baby step towards this. Perhaps try getting an hour more of sleep. that despite her beauty,

a sense of struggle and hopeless surround the sky .

Deep inside you realize that this day is gone,

and everything that It had brought is lost forever.

  Every thought,every action,every dream,every hope,

  every sight,every sound is gone.

There is no chance of every being returned the same,

  exactly the same.

For every moment has a limit to what it can capture,

Every memory has a limit to what it had retrieve.

And the colours in the sky try to entertain us.

one last act with painted smiles,

for they too know that nothing can be done to save the day.

So futile their attempt to comfort our fear of the night.

our horror as we try to find our way,

like children who wanderinto a forest and never return.

I am ingratiatedby the sunset because of

her sensitivity as she tries to push the darkness

back for just a moment more.

But like so many times before....to no avail!

  growth that starts from thinking

it seems to me a very difficult thing to put into words the beliefs we hold and what they make you do in your life. i think i was fortunate because i grew up in a family where there was a very deep religious feeling. i don’t think it was spoken of a great deal. it was more or less taken for granted that everybody held certain beliefs and needed certain reinforcements of their own strength and that that came through your belief in god and your knowledge of prayer.

but as i grew older i questioned a great many of the things that i knew very well my grandmother who had brought me up had taken for granted. and i think i might have been a quite difficult person to live with if it hadn’t been for the fact that my husband once said it didn’t do you any harm to learn those things, so why not let your children learn them? when they grow up they’ll think things out for themselves.

and that gave me a feeling that perhaps that’s what we all must do—think out for ourselves what we could believe and how we could live by it. and so i came to the conclusion that you had to use this life to develop the very best that you could develop.

i don’t know whether i believe in a future life. i believe that all that you go through here must have some value, therefore there must be some reason. and there must be some “going on.” how exactly that happens i’ve never been able to decide. there is a future—that i’m sure of. but how, that i don’t know. and i came to feel that it didn’t really matter very much because whatever the future held you’d have to face it when you came to it, just as whatever life holds you have to face it exactly the same way. and the important thing was that you never let down doing the best that you were able to do—it might be poor because you might not have very much within you to give, or to help other people with, or to live your life with. but as long as you did the very best that you were able to do, then that was what you were put here to do and that was what you were accomplishing by being here.

and so i have tried to follow that out—and not to worry about the future or what was going to happen. i think i am pretty much of a fatalist. you have to accept whatever comes and the only important thing is that you meet it with courage and with the best that you have to give.

the knowledge that you have emerged wiser and stronger from setbacks means that you are, ever after, secure in your ability to survive. you will never truly know yourself, or the strength of your relationships, until both have been tested by adversity. such knowledge is a true gift, for all that it is painfully won, and it has been worth more to me than any qualification i ever earned.

so given a time turner, i would tell my 21-year-old self that personal happiness lies in knowing that life is not a check-list of acquisition or achievement. your qualifications, your cv, are not your life, though you will meet many people of my age and older who confuse the two. life is difficult, and complicated, and beyond anyone’s total control, and the humility to know that will enable you to survive its vicissitudes.

you might think i chose my second theme, the importance of imagination, because of the part it played in rebuilding my life, but that is not wholly so. though i personally will defend the value of bedtime stories to my last gasp, i have learned to value imagination in a much broader sense. imagination is not only the uniquely human capacity to envision that which is not, and therefore the fount of all invention and innovation. in its arguably most transformative and revelatory capacity, it is the power that enables us to empathise with humans whose experiences we have never shared.

  what makes me feel big

  j. frank dobie

“my mind is big when i look at you and talk to you,” chief eagle of the pawnees said to george bird grinnell when, after years of absence, that noble writer appeared at his friend’s tepee.

it is very difficult in drawing up a credo to be severely honest about one’s self, to avoid all traditional cant. we actually believe in what we value most. outside of the realms of carnality and property, which men appearing in public generally pretend not to notice, i believe in and draw nourishment from whatever makes me feel big.

i believe in a supreme power, unknowable and impersonal, whose handiwork the soul-enlarging firmament declares. however, i believe in questionings, doubtings, searchings, skepticism, and i discredit credu lity or blind faith. the progress of man is based on disbelief of the commonly accepted. the noblest minds and natures of human history have thought and sung, lived and died, trying to budge the status quo towards a larger and fuller status.

i am sustained by a belief in evolution—the increasing purpose of life in which the rational is, with geological slowness, evolving out of the irrational. to believe that goodness and wisdom and righteousness, in garden of eden perfection, lie somewhere far ahead instead of farther and farther behind, gives me hope and somewhat explains existence. this is a long view. i do not pretend that it is a view always present in me. it does raise me when i have it, however.

i feel no resentment so strongly as that against forces which make men and women afraid to speak out forthrightly. the noblest satisfaction i have is in witnessing the up movement of suppressed individuals and people. i make no pretense to having rid myself of all prejudices, but at times when i have discovered myself freed from certain prejudices, i have felt rare exhilaration.

for me, the beautiful resides in the physical, but it is spiritual. i have never heard a sermon as spiritual in either phrase or fact as, “waters on a starry night are beautiful and free.” no hymn lifts my heart higher than the morning call of the bobwhite or the long fluting cry of sandhill cranes out of the sky at dusk. i have never smelled incense in a church as refining to the spirit as a spring breeze laden with aroma from a field of bluebonnets.

not all hard truths are beautiful, but beauty is truth. it incorporates love and is incorporated by love. it is the goal of all great art. its presence everywhere makes it free to all. it is not so abstract as justice, but beauty and intellectual freedom and justice, all incorporating truth and goodness, are constant sustainers to my mind and spirit.

But still I’m watching the lake, vaguely conscious, and I know my life is ending.

life is like a big swing, dangling between the depths of happiness and sadness. as soon as we descend down the slope of sadness, we accelerate over the ever-feel-good acclivity f happiness. at times of distress, when we are down we slip over an abyss of emotional trauma and frustrations. one who can rise above the occasion, is the architect of many wins over sorrows.

to come above tougher times you have to pep yourself up, when you are feeling low, lost and confused. this can be done effectively by self-talk. self-talk is a way of talking to oneself. it can be effectively used for soul searching. when talking to ourselves, we hardly lie as our conscience controls our speech. self talk is efficient because when we are vocal about our thoughts, it makes a larger impact on our mind. our brain then receives the same message from the mind as well as the ears. this repetition pep talks and thoughts fine tunes the performance of brain.

self-talk is a software, which when properly loaded onto our mind directs ourselves for better results and a healthy mind. actually many times in our life, we find others advising us to do better in studies, sports, life etc. we usually get bugged by these people and blank our ears out of their constructive suggestions. it is because it doesn't come from within us. and when something comes from within you, you always try your best to do justice to it. self-talk can thus ameliorate our status.

each one of us has some good points and some bad ones. though we hardly admit in pubic, we know in our mind that we could do better in some areas of our personal landscape. this get better attitude can be converted into a practical reality using self-talk.

if you are an introvert and you want to be the gregarious person like you friend next door, all you need to do is talk to yourself. tell yourself with all the sincerity and emotions that "i can be like him. i am a natural born speaker. i do like people and speaking comes naturally to me. i just have to be ready to listen and speak". suppose you love a person and want to tell him or her, then just say to yourselves "i love her with all my heart. she is the only one and i know it. if i don't let her know, it would be grave injustice on my part. every person loves to be loved. even she will". these are just some examples i have explained. it's up to you to program your own mantra.

if you are highly optimistic to do better, there is no better motivator than self-talk. so guys start talking.

there is no better school than adversity. every defeat, every heartbreak, every loss, contains its own seed, its own lesson on how to improve my performance next time. never again will i contribute to my downfall by refusing to face the truth and learn from my past mistakes. because i know: gems cannot shine without polish, and i can not perfect myself without hardship.

always will i seek the seed of triumph in every adversity.

i am better prepared , now ,to deal with any adversity . no matter what fate has in store for me to know that i will relish it or i will suffer it for only a brief, brief time.so very few understand this obvious truth while the rest allow their hopes and goals to vanish as soon as tragedy strikes. these unfortunately people carry with them, until they die their own bed of thorms and look to others. every day, for sympathy and attention.adversity will never destroy the person with courage and faith

always will i seek the seed of triumph in every adversity.

now i know that there are no times in life when opportunity, the chance to be and do gathers so richly about my soul as when it has to suffer cruel adversity. then everything depends on whether i raise my head or lower it in seeking help. whenever i am struck down, in the future, by any terrible defeat, i will inquire of myself, after the first pain has passed, how i can turn that adversity into good. what a great opportunity that moment may present……to make the bitter root i am holding and transform it into fragrant garden of flowers.

always will i seek the seed of triumph in every adversity.

  Permission to Fail

Each of us fails from time to time. If we are wise, we accept these failures as a necessary part of the learning process. But all too often as parents and teachers we deny this same right to our children. We tell them that failure is something to be ashamed of, that nothing but top performance will meet with our approval.

When I see a child subject to this kind of pressure, I think of Donnie, my youngest third-grader,he was a shy, nervous perfectionist. His fear of failure kept him from classroom games that other children played with joyous abandon. He seldom answered questions — he might be wrong. Written assignments, especially math, reduced him to nail-biting frustration. He seldom finished his work because he repeatedly checked with me to be sure he hadn't made a mistake.

I tried my best to build his self-confidence. But nothing changed until midterm, when Mary Anne, a student teacher, was assigned to our classroom. She was young and pretty, and she loved children. My pupils, Donnie included, adored her. But even enthusiastic, loving Mary was baffled by this little boy who feared of making mistake.

Then one morning we were working math problems at the blackboard. Donnie had copied the problems with painstaking neatness and filled in answers for the first row. Pleased with his progress, I left the children with Mary Anne and went for art materials. When I returned, Donnie was in tears. He'd missed the third problem.

Mary looked at me in despair. Suddenly her face brightened. From the desk we shared, she got a canister of pencils.

"Look, Donnie," she said, kneeling beside him and gently lifting the tear-stained face from his arms. She placed the pencils on his desk.

"See these pencils, Donnie?" she continued. "They belong to Mrs. Lindstrom and me. See how the erasers are worn? That's because we make mistakes too, lots of them. But we erase the mistakes and try again. That' what you must learn to do, too."

She kissed him and stood up. "Here," she said, "I'll leave one pencil to you so you'll remember that everybody makes mistakes, even teachers." Donnie looked up with love in his eyes and just a glimmer of a smile.

The pencil became Donnie's prize. That, together with Mary Anne's frequent encouragement and unfailing praise for even Donnie's small successes, gradually persuaded him that it's all right to make mistakes — s long as you erase them and try again.

  The Hand

[1]A Thanksgiving Day editorial(社论)in the newspaper told of a school teacher who asked her class of first graders to draw a picture of something they were thankful for. She thought of how little these children from poor neighborhoods actually had to be thankful for. But she knew that most of them would draw pictures of turkeys or tables with food. The teacher was taken aback(吃惊;惊讶)with the picture Douglas handed in… a smile childishly drawn hand.

[2]But whose hand? The class was captivated(迷惑;困惑)by the abstract(抽象的)image. “I think it must be the hand of God that brings us food,” said one child. “A farmer,” said another, “because he grows the turkeys.” Finally when the others were at work, the teacher bent(弯腰;屈身)over Douglas’s desk and asked whose hand it was. “It’s your hand, Teacher,” he mumbled(咕哝;含糊地说).

[3]She recalled that frequently at recess(课间休息)she had taken Douglas, a scrubby(身材矮小的)forlorn(孤独的)child by the hand. She often did that with the children. But it meant so much to Douglas. Perhaps this was everyone’s Thanksgiving, not for the material things given to us but for the chance, in whatever small way, to give to others.
